What makes Sportfishing in Los Barriles so special?
Los Barriles is situated at the heart of the blender where the cold Pacific ocean battles into the expanding warm waters of Sea of Cortez. The mixing of warm and cold nutrient-rich currents creates a totally unique marine environment.
Peaking at over a mind-blowing 3000m deep, the Sea of Cortez is one of the deepest bodies of water found anywhere in the world. Its extreme topography of trenches, canyons, and ledges were scorched out by violent volcanic activity before mankind was a twinkle in the earth’s eye. Furthered with violent tectonic shifts, the ultimate marine habitat was forged.
Combine this with the collision from the advancing Pacific Ocean and you quickly come to understand why we use the word ‘unique’ very intentionally. Understanding all these factors is just one reason which set us apart from other ‘everyday’ sportfishing charter services out there.

The seasons
The seasons here in Los Barriles, Baja are split into two. The most popular amongst sport fisherman is the warm calm summer that runs approximately from the middle of April to the middle October. The months just outside of this period offer exceptional fishing opportunities – however the weather windows become less and less, the further away you get.
The winter period runs roughly from the middle of October to the middle of April. While this period offers outstanding Yellowtail fishing, it’s accompanied by a relentless and consistent trade wind offering unpredictable opportunities to charter. The consistency of the wind is so famous, it attracts kiteboarders from around the world.
While the weather windows during winter are few and far between, they are incredibly rewarding when presented.

CONSERVATION
We work alongside conservation tagging programs to further our understanding of what’s going on below the waterline, to ensure it can be enjoyed by generations to come.
We also partner with the local community instead of using offshore funding to bulldoze our way through it. We are embracing this culturally rich paradise and supporting it from the grass roots up.
